Met a new Rahnumah today, in fact heard him. It was a soul refreshing experience to listen to him on Tazkiyya Nafs meaning Purification of Hearts. He was right in saying that the seeds won’t germinate without removing weeds from the land. Meray Rahnumah also told that the weeds of heart are pride, self pride (he called it UJUB*), malice, hatred and backbiting. Yes, pure heart means no malice and family members (oops).
Learnt many new things today but the best was this piece of information/reminder/alarm for self reflection:
Once the nephew of Abu Huraira R.A. (the nephew was Taba’i) asked Abu Huraira R.A. if he R.A. benefited maximum from the company of Prophet Muhammad S.A.W. He said: “If we (Taba’een) were to get his S.A.W’s company, they would wash his S.A.W’s feet and drink that water!” Abu Huraira R.A. wept and said: “You can say this with food in your stomach. We stood by Syedna Muhammad S.A.W when we were starving since days.”
Still proclaim yourself to be pious? Would you still be able to offer your salah if you don’t get your iftar this Ramadhan? Aren’t we more in need of Tazkia than salaf?
While I find my answers and you yours, let’s remind ourselves that the best source of Tazkia and Purification of Hearts is Quran.
P.S. Ujub is said to be more dangerous than pride. Reason? Pride may have fake basis, ujub has a true ‘talent’ behind it. Ujub attacks heart every time you are genuinely praised (every time!).
