Conflict Resolution

Have you ever faced a conflicting situation? No, not like the one where you think Centaurus is cool while your buddy thinks Dolmen Mall is (Dolmen Mall has nothing over Centaurus :o) ). I am talking about the real-world conflict. One that involves fury, shouting, scorns, bullying and brawl. It is not easy to display your impartiality, emotional intelligence, justice and wisdom at that very moment. Given is a situation of a real conflict that could have changed the history of Muslims and have lannded our ancestors into ciaos had Meray Rahnumah not shown wisdom (and wise-rage).

Scene: Two men fighting on a well. One is slave of Syedna Umer Farooq R.A. and other is an Ansar (Citizen of Madina)

Time: Right After Ghazwa Bani-Mustaliq

Two men started to fight over their turn on the well to get water. The fight entered next stage (group level) and each started calling their respective tribes.. Ya Ansaar! Ya Muhajireen! See, this happens when shaitan attacks us and makes us forget about our bond of Islam and reunites us in tribes and nations. This is when his friends find opportunity and Abdullah Bin Ubai yells:

“Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they disband.”

“If we return to al-Madinah, the more honored [for power] will surely expel therefrom the more humble.”

Surah Al-Munafiqoon

When the parties approached Syedna Muhammad S.A.W, he was furious over them and asked them why did they fight like the Jahileen or the ignorant people. Syedna Umer R.A. was so furious over Abdullah Bin Ubai and his provoking talks. He R.A. got the rumor from somewhere that Prophet S.A.W has decided to kill Ubai. Syedna Umer R.A. approached and sought permission from Prophet Muhammad S.A.W to kill him. But, Prophet S.A.W replied that killing a hypocrite will follow a believe in non-Muslim world that Muslims kill Muslims.

I wonder how many of us today will be wise, rather then emotional alone, when resolving conflicts that involve religious sentiment and personal interests.

Kia khayal hay?
